11 May 2014 (Day 68) – I passed the mileage halfway point today. Woot! There’s a marker in the woods denoting the milestone and almost every thru hiker lets out a cheer when they see it. I was no exception.
The General Store in Pine Grove Furnace State Park, PA is just a few miles beyond the halfway marker. Tradition states that thru hikers eat a half gallon of ice cream in half a hour. Child’s play! I finished in 19 minutes (chocolate) and promptly ate a cheeseburger afterwards to offset the dairy. 1620 Calories of ice cream and 550 Calories of cheeseburger is a good lunch on the trail.

Nancy, I will be in Duncannon, PA on Wednesday for a quick resupply and lunch at The Doyle downtown. There’s some risk in my schedule due to the changing terrain (rocks) here in PA and my failing shoes. If you want to take a risk and be there 1130ish on Wednesday, there’s about an 80% chance that we’ll meet. Worst case you eat there (good burger) and we miss each other. My phone is 202-817-6073 but coverage has been nearly non-existent along the trail so far. If I have coverage that morning, I will call you and let you know my progress. OK? Have a safe trip!

I can only speculate how good both of those items must’ve tasted. Great job, and well deserved!
